An eye examination by an optometrist is free when buying glasses. An Eye examination by an optician performs eye examinations and prescribes glasses and contact lenses for those over 8 years of age.

The cost of an appointment with an ophthalmologist depends on the specialist you choose. You can see our ophthalmologists’ rates in their profiles.
Silmäasema offers direct Kela reimbursement, which is applied during your visit if you are eligible.
Please note that Silmäasema reserves the right to charge the scheduled fee for appointments or procedures that are not cancelled in accordance with the cancellation policy.

Eye surgery is performed at our 19 eye hospitals across Finland. With more than 30 years of experience, we provide a wide range of surgical treatments and specialist eyecare services.
We perform eye examinations with the referral from an ophthalmologist at all Silmäasema’s eye hospitals, ophthalmology centres and in some of our stores.
VAT at 25.5% applies to aesthetic eyelid surgery.
*An office and Kanta fee of €28.90 per visit is added to the cost of the procedure.

We provide free servicing for glasses or sunglasses purchased from Silmäasema. The service includes temple adjustment, screw tightening and cleaning.
Repairs are carried out at the customer’s risk and require customer approval.

An office and Kanta fee is charged in connection with all ophthalmologist appointments and procedure visits. Optometrist services, preliminary examinations before refractive surgery and eye examinations are not subject to service fees.

If you have an eye condition that is monitored and treated by an ophthalmologist, an optician can prescribe glasses based on the ophthalmologist’s treatment plan.
After eye surgery, an ophthalmologist carries out the first follow-up examination to ensure your recovery is progressing as expected. They will provide guidance on ongoing monitoring and possible prescription needs. The glasses can then be renewed by an optician.
For children under 8 years of age, the first visit to Silmäasema is always with a paediatric ophthalmologist.
