At Silmäasema, an eye examination and an age-related eye examination performed by an optician are free for customers purchasing glasses. If you don’t purchase glasses at the time of the visit, the normal price of the eye examination will be charged.
For a sports-related eye examination, we offer a €35 discount to customers purchasing glasses.
If you don’t purchase glasses at the time of your appointment, the price of the eye examination will be charged as usual, and the amount will be deducted from the purchase of glasses later.
An eye examination is recommended if you suspect that your child has a problem with their vision. Difficulties with vision may include problems reading, squinting, headaches or difficulty concentrating.
An eye examination for a child over 8 years of age can be carried out by an optician. The examination assesses vision and eye function, and determines whether the child needs glasses.
The first eye examination at Silmäasema for children under 8 years of age is always with a paediatric ophthalmologist. After the initial examination, eye assessment and vision care are carried out in collaboration between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist.

During a first-time fitting, the optician selects the contact lenses best suited to your eyes and vision correction needs, shows you how to use and care for them, and checks that the lenses fit well and feel comfortable.
You will have the opportunity to practise handling your contact lenses and will receive instructions on how to care for them. At the end of the appointment, you will be given trial lenses to take home so you can continue practising and using contact lenses.
Please note that if your current glasses prescription is more than a year old, book an eye examination with an optician first, followed by a first-time contact lens fitting.
During an OCT examination, detailed images are taken of the structures of your eyes using optical coherence tomography. An structural imaging of the eyes provides more detailed information than traditional retinal imaging. At Silmäasema, the results are always assessed by an ophthalmologist. An OCT appointment with an optician also includes an eye examination.
An eye surgery assessment is suitable if you are considering eye surgery and would like to discuss the different options, surgical techniques, costs and financing, as well as other aspects of eye surgery, with an expert before proceeding to a fee-based preliminary examination. The assessment is free and does not commit you to anything.
Yes. Intraocular pressure is measured as part of eye health monitoring, and can be carried out during an eye examination by an optician or as a separate test.
Yes. Maintenance and repair services for glasses are available at all our stores. If your glasses or sunglasses do not fit properly, are crooked or need adjusting, our experts will be happy to help. We maintain glasses and sunglasses purchased from Silmäasema free of charge.
Yes. An optician can examine your vision and prescribe glasses even if you have an eye condition or have had eye surgery, provided that your condition is being monitored. If necessary, the optician will refer you to an ophthalmologist.
An appointment can be cancelled or rescheduled via our online booking or by contacting the store before the scheduled time.
