Lens care solutions

Contact lens solution is used to clean and store extended wear contact lenses. It also disinfects, moisturises and removes proteins and other deposits from the surface of the lenses. Properly cleaned contact lenses are safer to wear and remain comfortable throughout the day. There are two types of contact lens solution: multipurpose solutions and hydrogen peroxide-based solutions. Multipurpose solutions can also be used to rinse contact lenses, allowing you to insert them immediately after cleaning. Hydrogen peroxide-based solutions provide a deep clean and are highly effective, but they must always be fully neutralised before the lenses can be worn. The neutralisation time varies between brands but is typically around six hours. Your contact lens solution should always be chosen in consultation with a contact lens optician. Never mix fresh and used contact lens solution, and always replace your contact lens case when you open a new bottle of solution.
